Following Xero’s quarter 4 update, we cover here the key points that will help you get the most out of your software:
Reports
Two new columns have been added to the Aged Receivable Summary so you can quickly see any customers that are approaching or exceeding their credit limit. There is also a basic common format to the side panel which lets you see credit limits and available credit for all your customers, in one place.
Charts have been added to the ‘Expenses by Contact’ and ‘Income by Contact’ reports to help you make fast, informed decisions. You can display the chart as a bar chart, a tree map, or a pie chart, and export the chart to PDF. Bar charts have also been added to the ‘Top Suppliers’ and ‘Top Customers’ reports.
VAT
You can now record VAT payments automatically. Once you finalise or file your VAT Return with HMRC, you can create a draft bill or invoice in Xero with the details automatically populated – ready for you to review and approve.
Bank feeds
There is now a direct bank feed for Hydr and direct bank feeds with Allied Irish Bank have been re-introduced.
New look and useability for common features
Invoice reminders have been added to the new invoicing style, so you can save time chasing payments from your clients or customers. This allows you to turn invoice reminders on and off within an invoice or contact.
The add/edit page for Contacts has been redesigned to give it a fresh look and feel. The ability to merge multiple contacts at once has also been re-introduced.
Xero Accounting mobile app
For both iOS and Android
Filters and sorting can now be applied to the contact list.
For iOS
You can now create new purchase orders and edit and manage existing purchase orders.
For Android
When reconciling bank transactions, you can now adjust in two ways: Bank fees and Minor adjustments.
Apps
Xero has a new integration with Procore to help manage construction projects.
Top tip
If you pay some suppliers by BACS and others by Direct Debit, you can add them to contact groups for the method of payment. This lets you:
- Filter the Bills Awaiting Payment screen by payment type
- Sort, group or filter the Payable Bills reports to make managing your bills payable and generating BACS payments much easier
Future happenings
Open banking regulations in the UK have changed, so you’ll no longer need to re-authenticate with your bank every 90 days, provided your bank feed is live. After one final re-authentication per bank, just follow the prompts in Xero to continue receiving direct bank feeds.
Direct bank feeds for the Bank of Ireland and AMEX credit card transactions are under development.
